About the Litter Crew Program

The OSS Solid Waste District and the county juvenile courts of Ottawa, Sandusky and Seneca County are working together to improve and expand litter pick-up on township and county roadways throughout the District.

Discarded trash along roadways is not only ugly and unwanted but can be costly as well.  Litter can also take a toll on equipment and man hours for township and county road crews when they are working or mowing along these roadways.

The District is contracting with each county’s Juvenile Court and provides a very valuable service in two ways: (1) cleaning up unsightly litter and debris and (2) working off community service hours assigned.

Communication is Key

The crew supervisors are employees of the court and have direct communication with township and county road maintenance staff letting them know when the crew will be cleaning roads in their area.  Communication is the key to the success of this program by taking things like paving, construction and mowing into consideration.

Litter Clean-ups

The District provides each crew with all supplies including bags, gloves, safety vests, etc.  Whenever possible, recyclable materials (i.e. – aluminum, glass, etc.) are separated and taken to the nearest recycling drop-off.
